Odisha Police to launch multi-state special drive to rescue missing children

In a major interstate enforcement push, the Crime Against Women and Children Wing (CAW&CW) of the state crime branch has issued a strict Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for a targeted rescue operation.
According to the Times Of India, from May 21 to 30, Odisha Police will execute a coordinated special drive across India to trace and rescue missing children believed to be languishing outside the state.
Operational Strategy And Inter-State Mapping
Investigations show that many missing minors migrate beyond Odisha, frequently trapped as domestic helps or forced into labour at construction sites, hotels, and restaurants. To address this, each police range has been assigned two specific destination territories:
Eastern Range: West Bengal and Assam
Central Range: New Delhi and Rajasthan
North-Central Range: Jharkhand and Bihar
Northern Range: Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh
Western Range: Uttar Pradesh and Haryana
South-Western Range: Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
Southern Range: Tamil Nadu and Karnataka
Commissionerate Police: Maharashtra and Gujarat
Team Composition And Intelligence Gathering
Deploying 11-member units led by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), alongside two Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), inspectors, SIs/ASIs, and four constables, each team will split into two groups containing at least two female officers.
Utilizing untraced child data compiled by the CAW&CW, personnel will inspect child care institutes, cross-reference the Mission Vatsalya portal, and coordinate with Child Welfare Committees.

Furthermore, officers will liaise with local labour officers, district child protection officers, and regional Odia associations to gather intelligence from labour colonies. Range IGPs and DIGs, tasked with briefing teams three days prior to departure and monitoring daily progress, must submit final consolidated reports by June 5.
