Double murder accused in Odisha dies during treatment after mob assault

A man accused in a double murder case in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district has died while undergoing treatment after allegedly being assaulted by a mob following the incident.
The case pertains to Kulughutu village under Tiring police limits, where the accused reportedly killed two persons using a sharp weapon, triggering panic in the locality. Soon after the incident, enraged locals allegedly caught hold of him and assaulted him before police reached the spot.
The accused has been identified as 24-year-old Mochka Alda. Reports suggest that he was a mentally challenged youth. Following the assault, police rescued him from the scene in a critical condition and immediately shifted him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
However, despite medical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Police have described the incident as highly sensitive and said that the matter is being investigated with utmost seriousness. Officials also confirmed that a case has been registered at Tiring Police Station in connection with both the double murder and the subsequent assault.

Authorities further stated that appropriate legal action will be taken after a detailed investigation into the sequence of events, including the circumstances leading to the mob violence.
“Both the cases are sensitive, and we have taken them seriously while intensifying the investigation. We immediately took the accused to the hospital; however, he died while undergoing treatment. A case related to the incident has been registered at Tiring Police Station. Since it is a sensitive matter, necessary steps will be taken only after a proper investigation. All required measures are being taken in this regard,” said Rairangpur SDPO Birendra Senapati.
The incident has raised serious concerns over mob justice and the handling of mentally unstable individuals in conflict situations, even as police continue their investigation into both aspects of the case.
