In a major crackdown, Daspalla police and the district mining dept on Monday arrested four employees and seized one Hyva vehicle following a raid on an illegal stone mine named Shri Durga Convent, located in Gunthapayu under Daspalla police limits in Odisha’s Nayagarh district. 

The site had reportedly been operating stone blasting and crusher activities illegally for several years. The joint operation came after officials received credible information about ongoing violations.

Arrests Made, Investigation Ongoing

During the raid, authorities seized one hyva truck used in illegal operations and arrested four employees, who have been sent to court. The mine owner, however, managed to flee the scene. Police have launched a detailed investigation to track him down and ensure legal action is taken.

“The recent situation in Odagaon arose as raids are being conducted across all tehsils. We are hopeful that it will settle in the coming days. We will closely monitor the operations with mining officers to ensure no activities are carried out without proper leases or licenses. Appropriate actions will be taken, including penalties for seized items. The Deputy Director will be informed to appoint a new member,” said Madhumita Rath, District Collector, Nayagarh.

The raid highlights the efforts of district authorities to curb unauthorised mining activities, protect local resources, and enforce compliance with environmental and safety regulations. 

Officials emphasized that such illegal operations pose a threat not only to the environment but also to public safety due to unregulated blasting. The police and mining department have vowed to continue strict monitoring of the area to prevent further illegal activities.
