Man hacks ‘daughter-in-law’ to death over land dispute in Cuttack; arrested

A shocking incident unfolded in Akarpada village under Mahanga police limits in Cuttack district, where a man brutally hacked his daughter-in-law (nephew’s wife) to death over a minor land dispute.

According to reports, the accused allegedly struck her with a dagger while she was working in a field. 

The brutal assault left her critically injured. She was rescued in a critical condition and rushed to the local medical facility, but doctors declared her dead upon arrival. The deceased has been identified as Swarnalata Sahu (wife of the accused’s nephew).

Police Investigation Underway

Mahanga police, upon receiving information about the incident, immediately reached the scene and conducted a detailed investigation. The accuse uncle has been taken into custody and is being questioned.

Authorities indicated that the attack stemmed from an ongoing land dispute, highlighting the dangers of family conflicts escalating into violence.

Local residents expressed their grief and concern over the tragic loss. Police have vowed to carry out thorough inquiries to ensure justice for the victim and to prevent such incidents in the future.

“I took as much land as I was supposed to take. In this matter, the original villain is Nrusingha Charan Sahu. He is the main villain. Hagura, his son Tadia and Sanmana Sahu alias Jolly were also involved. These three people have killed my wife,” alleged Ranjan Kumar Sahu, deceased wife’s husband.

The community remains in mourning as the case is being closely monitored by law enforcement officials, emphasizing the need for swift legal action in disputes over property to avoid such fatal outcomes.
