117 Ama buses off roads in Bhubaneswar as employees stage protest over pending salaries

Public transport services under Ama Bus were severely disrupted on Monday as employees staged a protest at the Patrapada depot, affecting daily commuters across the city.
Reports stated that 117 buses operating on 45 routes remained off the roads due to the agitation, causing widespread inconvenience. The protest, which began at 4 am, involved drivers, guides, and other staff who alleged that their salaries had not been paid for over two months. No official response has yet been received from Ama Bus authorities.
Employees’ Demands
The employees raised multiple demands, including:
Timely payment of salaries
Provision of EPF and ESI benefits
Improved safety measures for bus guides
It was noted that Ama Bus guides currently receive their salaries through third-party agencies, which has been cited as a factor in the delays.
Impact on Commuters
The suspension of services on multiple routes has left a large number of passengers struggling to travel across Bhubaneswar, particularly during peak hours.
Authorities Investigate
Officials are reportedly looking into the matter and stated that efforts are underway to resolve the issue at the earliest. The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) has yet to issue an official statement regarding the protest.
Meanwhile, the protesting employees have indicated that their agitation will continue until their pending dues and demands are addressed.
