Ama Bus services halted across Rourkela as staff protest over salary, EPF demands

Public transport services under the ‘Ama Bus’ scheme remained completely suspended across Rourkela on Sunday after employees launched a strike over various demands, causing inconvenience to commuters across the city.

Not a single Ama Bus operated on any route during the day, despite nearly 100 buses usually plying daily across different parts of the city.

The disruption comes at a time when parts of the Rourkela region are also reportedly facing fuel-related issues, further adding to the difficulties of residents dependent on public transport for essential travel and work.

Employees Stage Dharna

Bus employees staged a dharna demanding salary hikes and resolution of EPF-related issues.

According to reports, the protest led to a complete shutdown of Ama Bus operations in the city, affecting passengers travelling for office work, emergencies and other important purposes.

Despite the large-scale disruption, members of the Ama Bus staff reportedly refrained from speaking to the media due to fear of losing their jobs.

Commuters Face Difficulties

With no Ama Bus services available, commuters were seen facing considerable inconvenience throughout the day.

The absence of government-run buses also added pressure on alternative modes of transport in the city.

Administration Assures Early Resolution

The district administration said discussions are being held with the employees’ association regarding their demands.
