RR sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi selected for India-A squad after stunning IPL season

Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been rewarded for his scintillating form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 with a maiden call-up to the India A squad for the upcoming tri-series against Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A. The youngster, now in his second IPL season, has amassed 440 runs in 11 matches, showcasing maturity, power, and consistency far beyond his years.
Vaibhav will join a 15-member squad led by captain Tilak Varma, with Riyan Parag named vice-captain. The white-ball tri-series begins on June 9 in Dambulla, concluding on June 21, immediately after the IPL season. Following the limited-overs games, India A will also play two multi-day matches in Galle against Sri Lanka A, with the red-ball squad to be announced later.
A Meteoric Rise
Vaibhav’s journey has been extraordinary. He debuted for Bihar in the Ranji Trophy at just 12, surpassing legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh as one of the youngest first-class debutants. Later, during a Youth Test against Australia in Chennai, he scored a 58-ball century for India Under-19, an innings highlighted by 14 boundaries and four sixes, falling just short of Moeen Ali’s record.
The young batter first turned heads in IPL 2025, scoring 252 runs in seven matches, including a century and a fifty. This season, he elevated his game further, striking at 236 and cementing his reputation as a generational talent.
A Star in the Making
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s India A selection underscores his meteoric rise in Indian cricket. At just 15, he has already proven he can thrive under pressure, blending power, skill, and temperament. The cricketing world will be watching closely as this teen sensation continues his journey toward the national stage.
