‘Old generation is …..’: Former India great hails Virat Kohli’s record-breaking ton in Raipur

Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar lauded Virat Kohli’s record-breaking century for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Raipur, saying the veteran proved that “the old generation is still the best” amid talks of the next generation taking over.
After two consecutive ducks, Kohli enthralled the Raipur crowd with a brilliant innings while chasing 193 runs, blending powerful boundaries with risk-free singles and doubles. With this effort, he became the first Indian to score 10 T20 hundreds and surpass 14,000 T20 runs, cementing his status as one of the game’s greatest.
Speaking on Star Sports’ Cricket Live, Gavaskar said, “Virat Kohli knows how to construct a chase better than most. When it comes to T20 centuries, he is third with 10, behind Chris Gayle and Babar Azam. But he is the fastest to 14,000 T20 runs and has nine IPL hundreds. Records are there to be broken, but it will take a long time for anyone to match what Kohli keeps delivering, game after game, season after season.”

RCB won the toss and opted to bowl first, reducing KKR to 48/2. Strong knocks from Angkrish Raghuvanshi (71)* and Rinku Singh (49)* propelled KKR to 192/4 in 20 overs. Josh Hazlewood, Rasikh Salam Dar, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar took one wicket each.
During the chase, despite losing opening partner Jacob Bethell early, Kohli stitched a 92-run partnership with Devdutt Padikkal (39) to keep RCB ahead of the required run rate. RCB eventually chased down the target in 19.1 overs with six wickets in hand, climbing back to the top of the table with 16 points (8 wins, 4 losses).
Meanwhile, KKR’s four-match unbeaten streak came to an end, denting their playoff hopes and making their remaining three games a must-win.
