For countless students across India, exam results often arrive with fear, pressure and comparisons. But one family in Mumbai chose to react differently when their son scored 55 percent in his school exams.

Instead of disappointment, Mohammed Zaid was welcomed with cheers, smiles and a celebration that has now touched thousands online.

A Cake Inspired by a Report Card

To mark the occasion, Zaid’s family arranged a customised cake designed exactly like his marksheet. The cake included details such as his name, roll number, parents’ names and even his subject-wise scores.

He secured 57 marks in English, 44 in Marathi, 56 in Hindi, 59 in Mathematics, 55 in Science and Technology, and 49 in Social Sciences. His final tally stood at 276 out of 500, which came to 55 percent overall. As family members clapped and celebrated around him, Zaid walked in smiling before cutting the cake in a moment filled with warmth and excitement.

Social Media Sees More Than Just Numbers

The video of the celebration quickly spread online, prompting emotional reactions from many viewers who said they had never experienced such support despite scoring much higher marks. 

“Even with 84%, I never got this much celebration or respect,” a user said.

Another commented, “I scored 95% in Class 10 and 94.8% in Class 12, but never received this kind of treatment.” 

Several users praised the family for choosing motivation over criticism. “This is how every parent should celebrate,” one comment read. For many online, the celebration symbolised something bigger than academic performance — unconditional support. 

‘I Don’t Want Him To Feel Less Than Anyone’

As the video gained traction, Ruksar Patel, a member of Zaid’s family who shared the clip online, explained why the gesture mattered deeply to her.

“For me, my child’s 55 marks are greater than 95 or 85. Instead of scolding him or making him feel bad, I want to keep him happy so that he never feels less than anyone else. There are many parents who have lost their children after saying hurtful things like this,” Ruksar said.

More than the percentage itself, it was the family’s response that struck a chord online — a reminder that compassion, confidence and emotional support can matter far more than numbers on a marksheet.
