Odisha to roll out new film policy; CM Majhi promises boost for Odia cinema

Odisha government will soon introduce a separate film policy for the state, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced after holding discussions with eminent personalities from the Odia film fraternity on Saturday.
The interaction programme focused on the present condition of Odia cinema, its future growth and the preservation of Odisha’s cultural heritage.
Following the meeting, the Chief Minister said lack of funds would not become a hurdle in the development of the Odia film industry. He also advised filmmakers to focus on original stories connected to the lives, culture and traditions of Odisha.
The Chief Minister further stated that Odia cinema does not need to imitate others and should instead develop its own distinct identity and voice.
Govt Focuses On Long-Term Growth
Odisha minister Suryabanshi Suraj said the Chief Minister held extensive discussions with stakeholders from the Odia film industry regarding various issues linked to cinema production and distribution.
“Odia cinema is currently in its 90th year and in another 10 years it will complete its centenary. Coincidentally, Odisha will also complete 100 years during the same period. We are beginning efforts from now itself to take the Odia film industry to greater prominence,” he said.
He further added, “Starting from the distribution system of Odia cinema to screening during prime time, several suggestions were placed before the Chief Minister. He listened to all the issues and shared his views as well. Steps will be taken to strengthen and improve Odia cinema.”
Film Personalities Welcome Initiative
Odia actress Anu Choudhury welcomed the government’s support and said it would help the industry move forward.
“It has been everyone’s effort to improve Odia cinema and support from the government will definitely help achieve greater success. It will carry the message of our land and unity to the rest of the world. We struggled for a long time and I believe those efforts will yield positive results,” she said.
Odia actor Harihara Mahapatra said the Chief Minister heard the suggestions, grievances and concerns of members of the film fraternity during the meeting.
