In a heartbreaking incident highlighting the true spirit of friendship and sacrifice, a man went to extraordinary lengths to save his injured friend by carrying him nearly eight kilometres on a tricycle through heavy rain in Odisha’s Koraput district on Sunday. However, despite his relentless efforts and determination, the injured man could not survive.

The tragic incident took place in the Laxmipur area of Koraput district during a severe Nor’wester storm that lashed the region. The entire district witnessed heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, but no one could have anticipated that the sudden weather change would lead to such a devastating tragedy.

According to reports, four friends had taken shelter under a tree near Kaipadar Square in the locality while rain and thunderstorms intensified. During the storm, lightning struck the area, severely injuring one of them, identified as Sheikh Jamir.

As panic gripped the group, one of Jamir’s friends immediately sprang into action. Without wasting a moment, he placed the injured man on a tricycle that was available nearby and began transporting him to a hospital. Braving torrential rain, thunder, and dangerous weather conditions, he continued the journey with a single goal to save his friend’s life.

Eyewitnesses said the man ignored his own safety and struggled through the storm, risking his life to ensure his friend received medical attention. He continued the desperate effort till the very last moment, refusing to give up despite the harsh conditions.

However, by the time they reached the medical facility after the nearly eight-kilometre journey, it was too late. Sheikh Jamir had already succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased and his friends are reportedly residents of Birbhum district in West Bengal. They had been staying in the area for work and were engaged in the tin box business.

The incident has left local residents deeply moved, with many describing it as a rare and emotional example of friendship and selfless humanity. Though the rescue attempt ended in tragedy, the friend’s determination to fight till the very end stands as a powerful reminder that true friendship still exists.
