No fuel crisis in Odisha, temporary dry-out situations not uncommon: Principal Secretary

Odisha government has clarified that there is no fuel crisis in the State despite reports of temporary dry-out situations at several petrol pumps. The Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare (FS&CW) department Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh assured the public on Thursday that fuel stocks remain adequate and there is no reason for panic.

Addressing concerns over fuel availability, the senior official stated that dry-out conditions have been reported at around 20 to 22 fuel stations (petrol pumps) across the State. However, he emphasised that the situation is not due to any shortage of petrol or diesel; rather, because of management-related issues at certain retail outlets.

According to the FS&CW department, such temporary dry-out situations are not uncommon and are seen occasionally even during normal circumstances. Officials explained that delays in coordination, transportation, or stock management at individual fuel stations in Odisha can sometimes lead to temporary unavailability of fuel.

The Principal Secretary said the government is continuously monitoring the situation, and necessary arrangements are being made to ensure smooth fuel supply across Odisha. He appealed to citizens not to become anxious or rush to fuel stations out of fear, warning that panic buying could unnecessarily create pressure on the supply chain.

The clarification comes amid speculation and deep concerns regarding fuel availability and possible disruptions to transport services in Odisha. The State government also dismissed apprehensions raised by the private bus owners’ association regarding operational difficulties due to fuel shortages.

Officials asserted that bus services are functioning normally and there is currently no obstacle to public transportation. The administration reiterated that both petrol and diesel supplies remain stable and sufficient to meet public demand.

The government’s statement is expected to ease public concern as authorities continue close monitoring of fuel distribution and stock management at filling stations throughout the State.

“There is absolutely no fuel crisis. Dry-out situations have been reported at 20 to 22 fuel depots across the State. The recent dry-out situation has occurred due to a lack of proper management. The dry-out issue has not occurred because of any fuel shortage. Even under normal conditions, dry-out situations are seen at 20–22 fuel depots,” Secretary Singh said.

“Monitoring of such dry-out situations is underway, and necessary arrangements are being made. People should not panic at all and buy fuel unnecessarily. Concerns raised by the private bus owners’ association have no basis; there is no issue in operating buses,” the Principal Secretary added.
