Unique protest against frequent power cut draws public attention in Jagatsinghpur

Public frustration mounted in Jagatsinghpur district, Odisha, over frequent and unannounced power outages, as residents struggle with daily disruptions amid scorching summer heat. The situation on Monday sparked widespread dissatisfaction, prompting an unusual and highly visible form of protest against the alleged arbitrary functioning of Tata Power.
In a distinctive move, noted social activist and advocate Basudev staged a protest to highlight the persistent electricity disruptions. Donning women’s attire, he traversed various parts of the town, interacting with residents and raising awareness about the hardships caused by prolonged power cuts. His unconventional approach quickly captured public attention and sparked discussions across the district.
Reports indicate that residents have been experiencing nearly five hours of power outages daily, a situation made even more challenging by intense heat and high humidity. The interruptions have affected households, businesses, students, and routine activities, amplifying public anger and frustration.

Locals allege that the unannounced outages and the utility’s perceived mismanagement have caused significant inconvenience, especially during peak summer days. With discontent continuing to rise, residents are demanding a more reliable and transparent electricity supply.
Basudev has also announced a protest at the electricity office on May 21 to intensify the agitation and press for swift action to resolve the issue. As of now, no official response or clarification has been issued by the electricity department regarding the ongoing outages or the public protests.
