‘Jharsuguda records 42.8°C’: Extreme heat and humidity grip Odisha as summer intensifies

Odisha continues to reel under intense heatwave conditions, with soaring temperatures and extreme humidity making daily life increasingly challenging for residents across the state. From interior regions to coastal districts, stepping outdoors has become a struggle even during early morning hours.
The relentless summer heat has caused widespread discomfort, affecting both urban and rural populations. Citizens are facing exhaustion under the blazing sun as the mercury continues to rise steadily, disrupting normal routines and forcing people to limit outdoor activities during peak daytime hours.
According to weather updates, by 2:30 PM on Monday, three cities in Odisha had already recorded temperatures above 40°C, with Jharsuguda emerging as the hottest, registering a scorching 42.8°C. Other cities also reported significantly high temperatures, contributing to the overall heatwave conditions in the state.

While residents contend with the oppressive heat, the state’s weather pattern shows contrasting developments. The influence of Nor’wester winds has prompted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a Yellow Warning for 13 districts across Odisha. The alert signals the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by sudden rainfall, gusty winds, and lightning activity in the affected areas.
Authorities have advised residents to exercise caution, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, stay hydrated, and follow weather advisories to mitigate the impact of both the extreme heat and potential storm-related hazards.
