The deceased has been identified as Manoj Mallik, a resident of Alara village. Allegations made by the victim’s elderly father, Basant Mallik, state that Manoj was allegedly called to his in-laws’ house at Karadibandha village in Badamba by his wife, Laxmipriya Rout.
The elderly man has accused Laxmipriya of killing her husband by attacking his private parts following prolonged family tensions.
After receiving a written complaint in this connection, Odisha Police registered a murder case at Badamba Police Station and initiated a detailed probe. The body has been seized and sent for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
Athagarh SDPO Biswajit Mohanty informed the media that a case (No.-194/2026) has been registered and investigation is underway, and all angles are being examined carefully.
The case has taken another turn after the deceased’s wife reportedly claimed that Manoj had taken an extreme step and died by suicide. However, the victim’s father has strongly rejected the suicide claim and alleged that his son was brutally murdered.
Investigators are now waiting for the post-mortem report to come in, which is expected to play a crucial role in determining whether the death was a case of murder or suicide. Police have not yet issued any final statement regarding arrests or the exact sequence of events.
The incident has created tension and curiosity in Badamba region, with locals demanding a fair and transparent investigation into the mysterious death.
“A murder case (No.-194/2026) has been registered with Badamba police in this connection. Manoj Mallick (the deceased man) had been staying for about four to five years at his father-in-law’s house. He belonged to Alara village in Narasinghpur. A few days after his marriage, due to discord with his brothers, he came and stayed at his father-in-law’s house in Karadibandha,” Athagarh SDPO, Biswajit Mohanty, said.
“His dead body was found hanging, and was later seized by Badamba police. Based on his wife’s report, an unnatural death (U/d) case was initially registered. Subsequently, when his father lodged an FIR, the U/d case was converted to a murder case, and an investigation into the matter is underway,” SDPO Mohanty expressed.
“Manoj’s body has been sent to hospital for a post-mortem. We are viewing the incident with seriousness. The IIC (Inspector-in-Charge) of Badamba Police Station is investigating it. And if their (in-laws’) involvement is found, those people will certainly be arrested. An FIR has been lodged against his wife and in-laws. Therefore, we will take action after the post-mortem report and the scientific team’s report are received,” the SDPO added.
