An Odia youth from Odisha’s Ganjam district reportedly died in a drone attack in Russia’s capital Moscow amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, officials said on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as A. Ramaya of Madhabandha village under Chikiti block in Ganjam district.

According to reports, Ramaya had travelled to Russia around a month ago for work. He reportedly died on Saturday while working at a company during the drone attack.

Family Informed By Friend

Sources said one of Ramaya’s friends informed the family members about the incident. The friend reportedly told the family that seven people sustained injuries in the attack and were shifted to hospital.

However, Ramaya allegedly succumbed to injuries sustained in the drone strike.

Following the incident, the deceased’s family approached the district administration during the public grievance hearing and requested assistance in bringing back his mortal remains.

Administration In Touch With Indian Embassy

Ganjam Collector V. Keerthi Vasan confirmed the incident and said the administration is coordinating with authorities concerned regarding the repatriation process.

“We offer our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. We are in constant touch with officials in Delhi. Efforts are underway to bring back the mortal remains of A. Ramaya,” the Collector said.

He further stated that discussions are ongoing with the Indian Embassy in connection with the matter.
