Major crackdown on sand mafia in Keonjhar; Rs 25 lakh cash, 30 vehicles seized

Odisha police launched a major crackdown on illegal sand trade activities in Keonjhar district on Monday, conducting raids at multiple locations linked to alleged sand mafia operators. The operations targeted areas under Anandapur, Ghasipura, and Nandipada police stations.

During the raids, officials searched the residences of individuals allegedly involved in illicit sand trading, seizing cash worth Rs 25 lakh and over 30 vehicles. In addition, more than 12 people have been detained for questioning in connection with the case.

Multi-Location Raids

Reports indicate that the police conducted simultaneous raids at seven different locations across the district. Several individuals suspected of involvement in illegal sand transportation and trade were questioned during the operation.

The crackdown was carried out under the direction of the district Superintendent of Police, with Additional SP Snehashish Sahu and Anandapur SDPO Kamal Lochan Panda leading the raid teams.

BJD Leader’s Residence Also Searched

The residence of Hatadihi block vice-chairman and BJD State Secretary Ratikanta Rout was also included in the raids. However, police have not yet disclosed specific findings from the searches conducted at his premises.

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities have confirmed that the investigation into the illegal sand trade network is continuing. Interrogation of the detained individuals is underway as police aim to dismantle the organized operations of the sand mafia in Keonjhar.
