West Bengal government raises upper age limit for recruitment to government jobs

In a significant move for job aspirants, the Government of West Bengal has officially raised the upper age limit for applying to various government positions across the state. The notification, issued by the Finance Department’s Audit Branch of the West Bengal Government from Nabanna, Howrah, comes into effect from 11th May 2026.

According to the notification, the upper age limits for recruitment to different groups of posts have been revised as follows:

Group ‘A’ posts: The upper age limit has been increased to 41 years. However, where the existing upper age limit for any post or service already exceeds 41 years, the higher age limit will remain unchanged.

Group ‘B’ posts: The age limit has been raised to 44 years.

Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ posts: Candidates can now apply up to the age of 45 years.

The notification further clarifies that for recruitment under the West Bengal Regulation of Recruitment in State Statutory Bodies, Government Companies, and Local Authorities Act, 1999, and rules or notifications issued under it (except through the Public Service Commission, West Bengal), the maximum age limit for applicants shall be 45 years.

This decision is expected to benefit thousands of aspiring candidates who were previously ineligible due to age restrictions, providing a wider opportunity to participate in state government recruitment processes.
