A violent attack allegedly triggered by a past relationship dispute left two persons critically injured inside the premises of Sahadevkhunta police station in Odisha’s Balasore district on Friday.

According to police sources, a young woman had arrived at the police station along with her mother and maternal uncle for a discussion and compromise meeting with her former boyfriend, identified as Jatin Pradhan.

During the discussion, Jatin allegedly attacked the woman’s mother and maternal uncle with a sharp weapon inside the police station premises, creating panic in the area.

Both the injured persons, who are siblings, sustained grievous injuries and were first admitted to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital. Later, they were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated.

Following the attack, the accused allegedly attempted to flee from the spot on a motorcycle. However, police personnel managed to chase and apprehend him.

Sahadevkhunta police have launched an investigation into the incident and are trying to ascertain the circumstances that led to the attack.

The incident has sparked concern as the assault reportedly took place within the police station premises during an ongoing settlement discussion.
