Odisha Police organises 75th ‘Sundays on Cycle’ event in Rourkela to promote fitness

Odisha Police organised the 75th edition of its “Sundays on Cycle” campaign in Rourkela on Sunday. Senior officers and personnel participated in a cycling event aimed at promoting physical fitness and encouraging healthier lifestyles.
The programme, themed “Ride Today for a Healthier Tomorrow”, saw participants cycle from the Rourkela SP Office to the Reserve Police Ground as part of the state-wide initiative.
Senior Officers Join Fitness Drive
Western Range DIG Brijesh Rai and Rourkela Superintendent of Police Nitesh Wadhwani joined the event along with police personnel from different ranks.
Addressing participants, DIG Rai said the campaign was intended to encourage healthy living and popularise cycling as a regular fitness activity.
“The theme of the initiative is ‘Ride Today for a Healthier Tomorrow’. This is the 75th edition of the ‘Sundays on Cycle’ campaign. The message is to encourage society to stay healthy. It is also aimed at establishing cycling as a new fitness icon and creating awareness about the Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held in 2030,” he said.
Focus On Physical And Mental Well-Being
The DIG said the police department actively participates in such programmes to maintain the fitness and readiness of the force.
“We actively participate to ensure the activeness of the police force. We believe that through this initiative, the Fit India Movement will reach every citizen. It will also help in building a healthier and more active generation of youth in the future,” Rai added.
SP Nitesh Wadhwani said maintaining fitness was essential for police personnel in carrying out their duties effectively.
“Exercise is an integral part of the routine of all officials. This initiative specifically focuses on the physical and mental health of police personnel. It will help officers and staff across all ranks remain healthy,” he said.
One of the participating officials said, “We cycle regularly to stay fit and gathered here today after receiving the invitation to participate in the initiative.”

The programme forms part of Odisha Police’s ongoing efforts to promote fitness, wellness and public awareness through community-based activities.
