An unfortunate incident unfolded in Odisha’s Balasore district, where a minor boy aged 15 years drowned while taking a bath with friends on Thursday. The incident took place at Harganga pond near Mutt Sahi, where five friends had gone to bathe. While the others managed to stay safe, the deceased minor identified as Samir Hussain from Khaparapada village, reportedly drowned in the water.

Rescue Efforts Prove Fatal

According to preliminary reports, Balasore town police and the fire brigade rushed to the scene after receiving information and conducted an intensive one-and-a-half-hour search. Samir was recovered from the pond and rushed to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in critical condition. 

Despite immediate medical attention, doctors declared him dead, leaving his family and friends in shock.

The incident has raised concerns over safety around local ponds, especially for children and adolescents who often visit these areas without supervision. 

Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident. Authorities have urged locals to exercise caution and ensure proper safety measures when near water bodies.

Samir’s untimely death is a somber reminder of the risks posed by unattended ponds and the importance of community awareness to prevent such tragedies in the future.
