Red Alert issued for half the state as severe heatwave continues across Odisha

Odisha continues to remain under the grip of an intense summer heatwave, with soaring temperatures and an alarming rise in the heat index causing widespread discomfort across the state.

From the remote interior regions to the coastal belt, people are struggling to cope with the oppressive weather conditions as extreme heat and humidity continue to affect daily life.

The situation has turned particularly severe in western Odisha, where intense heat and scorching conditions have made normal life difficult. Residents are facing tremendous hardship due to persistent high temperatures and unbearable hot winds. The combined impact of extreme heat and humidity has significantly disrupted daily routines and outdoor activities.

Conditions in coastal and northern Odisha are reportedly even more concerning, as rising humidity levels have increased the heat index, making temperatures feel much hotter. People across these regions are experiencing intense discomfort, with many finding it difficult to stay outdoors for extended periods.

According to weather forecasts, such conditions are likely to persist for the next three days, until May 29. The prolonged spell of extreme weather has raised concerns over public health, particularly for children, senior citizens, and outdoor workers who are most vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.
