Panic gripped villagers in the Kaptipada area in Odisha‘s  Mayurbhanj district after a bear was spotted roaming through residential areas. 

Residents of Kochiladiha and Bairatpur villages under the Kaptipada forest range are reportedly spending sleepless nights amid growing panic over the repeated movement of the wild animal.

Villagers said people are shutting their doors and remaining indoors after evening. Panic intensified after CCTV footage capturing a bear moving through village areas surfaced, prompting families to stay awake in turns throughout the night.

CCTV Footage Triggers Panic

According to local residents and forest officials, the animal seen roaming in the villages is believed to be the same bear that had earlier strayed into residential areas. However, forest department personnel are yet to successfully track the animal.

The repeated sightings have left villagers worried about their safety, especially during night hours. Residents said movement outside homes has reduced significantly due to fear of sudden encounters with the bear.

Forest Department Launches Drive

Forest officials have launched efforts to drive the bear away from the habitation areas. Teams are monitoring the affected villages and surrounding forest stretches in an attempt to prevent the animal from entering residential pockets again.

Despite the ongoing efforts by the forest department, fear and anxiety continue to prevail among villagers. Residents have urged authorities to take immediate steps to ensure the bear is traced and the situation brought under control.
