Don 3 controversy explodes: Farhan Akhtar takes Ranveer Singh dispute to FWICE amid fallout over exit

When Farhan Akhtar officially announced Don 3, the film quickly became one of Bollywood’s most anticipated projects. The buzz skyrocketed after Ranveer Singh replaced Shah Rukh Khan as the franchise’s new lead, while Kiara Advani joining as the female lead further raised expectations.
However, the film soon ran into turbulence. Kiara reportedly exited the project due to her pregnancy, with Kriti Sanon stepping in as her replacement. Just when reports of the film going on floors revived excitement, Ranveer’s sudden exit shocked fans and triggered a dispute that continues to grab headlines months later.

Farhan Akhtar Takes Don 3 Matter to FWICE
The disagreement between Farhan Akhtar and Ranveer Singh has now reportedly reached the Federation of Western India Cine Employees, commonly known as Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE). According to an official statement issued by FWICE, the complaint was filed through the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA), of which Farhan Akhtar is a member.
As reported by News18, the film body stated that after reviewing the complaint and surrounding circumstances, it had arrived at a decision that would be announced publicly during a press conference scheduled for around 4 pm on Monday.
“During the press conference, FWICE will officially address the matter and communicate its stand and decision after examining the complaint and the related circumstances,” the statement read.
What Triggered the Don 3 Fallout?
Tensions between Ranveer Singh and producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment reportedly surfaced in December 2025 after Ranveer unexpectedly exited Don 3, despite already being announced as the lead actor of the franchise reboot.
The actor’s departure reportedly came soon after the blockbuster success of Dhurandhar. Industry chatter suggested that Ranveer had sought significant changes to the script, a move that allegedly did not sit well with the makers.

At the same time, speculation spread that Ranveer believed Farhan Akhtar had considered replacing him with Hrithik Roshan during a difficult phase in his career, before deciding to continue with him following the success of Dhurandhar. Hrithik, notably, had appeared in a key cameo in Don 2 back in 2011.
Several reports further claimed that Farhan Akhtar demanded ₹40 crore in damages, arguing that the production house had already invested the amount into the film’s pre-production work and that Ranveer had approved the script during every stage of development. The dispute was also reportedly discussed with the Producers Guild of India.
However, the Guild is said to have encouraged both sides to settle the matter amicably instead of escalating it legally.
Farhan Akhtar Breaks Silence on the Conflict
Farhan Akhtar recently opened up about the turbulence surrounding the project during an interaction with The Hollywood Reporter India.

Reflecting on the unpredictability of filmmaking, he said, “What I’ve learnt is expect the unexpected. You can’t take anything for granted until it’s on film. You realise at some point, there’ll be a period that would come that would be a bit challenging. You’ve had it good. It’s okay, just take it in your stride. Sometimes, when roadblocks happen, I feel I should just go back to acting. I wouldn’t have to deal with all this stuff.”
