A serious incident came to light on Sunday in the Kanchanibag area under the Balasore Sadar police station limits when a minor 17-year-old girl’s family allegedly attempted to force her into marriage with a 40-year-old man. 

Although the minor girl was unwilling to marry the man chosen by her family, they were forcing her to get hitched. Concerned villagers quickly intervened upon learning about the situation, detaining the groom temporarily and informing the police.

Police Take Action, Investigation Underway

Acting promptly, the police reached the scene and took the girl’s father and the groom, identified as Jitendra Barik, into custody. The intervention ensured that the minor was protected from the forced marriage, highlighting the community’s vigilance and the authorities’ quick response. 

The police have confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and hold those responsible accountable.
