Odisha braces for another scorching day as the heat index soars

Odisha continued to experience oppressive weather conditions on Friday as high temperature combined with elevated humidity levels pushed up the heat index across several parts of the state, increasing discomfort for residents.
According to meteorological observations, dry and hot winds from central and north-western India have been entering Odisha continuously, contributing to the rise in temperatures. The prevailing conditions have particularly affected western districts, where temperatures have remained exceptionally high.
Jharsuguda Records Highest Temperature
Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature in the state as the summer spell persisted. The inflow of hot and dry winds was identified as a key factor behind the sustained rise in daytime temperatures across western Odisha.
Meteorologists noted that the combined effect of high temperatures and humidity led to an increase in the heat index, making conditions feel hotter than the actual recorded temperature. As a result, residents in several districts are experiencing greater discomfort.
Increased Moisture Levels
While western Odisha continues to face intense heat, coastal districts are witnessing a rise in humidity levels due to easterly winds flowing in from the Bay of Bengal.
The moisture-laden winds increased the amount of water vapour in the atmosphere along the coast, resulting in humid conditions across several coastal locations. The combination of humidity and high temperature further intensified discomfort levels in these areas.
