Sword attack in Bhubaneswar: 3 arrested by Commissionerate Police; weapon, vehicle and phones seized

Commissionerate Police on Wednesday arrested three accused persons in connection with the alleged sword attack on All Odisha GIG Workers’ Union chairman Vijay Mahapatra at Rajmahal in Bhubaneswar.

The arrested accused have been identified as SK Samsad, Durga Malal and Sipun Guru. Police have seized a machete, three mobile phones and a four-wheeler vehicle from their possession.

According to reports, the attack took place late on Tuesday night following a minor altercation regarding overtaking the vehicle. It was alleged that the accused arrived in a black four-wheeler vehicle and attacked Vijay Mahapatra with a machete.

Vijay reportedly sustained serious injuries to his hand in the incident.

Police Action After Complaint

Police said the accused were arrested within six hours after a complaint was lodged at Capital Police Station on Wednesday morning.

During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage and tracked the movements of the accused before apprehending them.

According to reports, the four-wheeler used in the incident was intercepted while it was allegedly being driven outside Odisha at a very high-speed.

Weapons And Vehicle Seized

Police seized the machete allegedly used in the attack along with three mobile phones and the vehicle used by the accused persons.

Sources said the three accused individuals already have multiple complaints registered against them.
