Severe heatwave forces Anganwadi centres to remain closed till May 31 in Bhadrak

In response to the ongoing heatwave and soaring temperatures across Bhadrak district, the District Collector on Wednesday ordered the closure of all Anganwadi centres from tomorrow until May 31.
The move aims to ensure the safety and health of preschool children who are particularly vulnerable to extreme weather conditions. Authorities have emphasised that this temporary closure is a precautionary measure, reflecting the administration’s commitment to child welfare during severe heat.
Dry Rations Distribution Ensures Continued Support
To mitigate the impact of the closures, the district administration has instructed that dry rations be delivered directly to children’s homes. This ensures that nutritional support continues uninterrupted even as Anganwadi centres remain shut.
Officials have clarified that while pre-school activities are paused, all other regular programs and services at the centres will continue in accordance with government guidelines.
District officials have circulated detailed instructions to all sub-collectors, DSWOs, and CDPOs to facilitate the smooth implementation of this plan. Families are urged to cooperate with local authorities during this period.
The proactive measures reflect a balance between maintaining essential nutrition and safeguarding children from the harsh effects of the heatwave. Residents are advised to follow health advisories and stay vigilant as temperatures continue to rise in the district.
