Odisha sizzles under intense heatwave as temperatures continue to hover above 40°C

Western Odisha continues to reel under severe heatwave conditions, with temperatures refusing to dip below the 40-degree Celsius mark. The region has been witnessing relentless heat over the past several days, with mercury levels consistently ranging between 40°C and 45°C, causing growing discomfort among residents.
The scorching weather conditions have intensified concerns as several areas across western Odisha remain under the grip of extreme summer heat. According to the latest weather updates, temperatures in major cities have remained significantly above normal, indicating the persistence of heatwave conditions in the region.
As of 2:30 PM on Sunday, Sambalpur recorded the highest temperature at a sweltering 44.6°C. Close behind, Jharsuguda registered 44.4°C, while Hirakud recorded a high of 43.8°C, reflecting the intensity of the prevailing heat.

The situation was equally severe on the previous day, when five cities in western Odisha witnessed temperatures touching the 45°C mark. Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest place in the state, recording an extreme temperature of 45.2°C.
With no immediate relief in sight, the prolonged spell of intense heat has raised concerns over public health and daily life. Authorities are expected to continue monitoring the situation and advise residents to take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses as Western Odisha remains under a fiery summer grip.
