In a tragic road accident, the driver of a fertiliser-laden truck lost his life after the vehicle reportedly went out of control and crashed into a roadside tree in Nabarangpur district of Odisha on Thursday.

The accident took place near Katapara under Raighar area of the district.

According to preliminary information, the truck was transporting fertiliser when the driver allegedly lost balance over the vehicle while travelling through the stretch near Katapara. The speeding truck then rammed into a roadside tree and overturned, causing severe damage to the vehicle.

Driver trapped beneath overturned truck

The impact of the collision was so severe that the driver got trapped beneath the overturned truck.

Locals who noticed the accident immediately rushed to the spot and alerted police and fire services. Soon after receiving information, Raighar police and fire personnel reached the accident site and launched a rescue operation.

Rescuers worked for a considerable time to pull out the driver from beneath the heavily damaged vehicle. He was later rescued in a critical condition.

However, the driver succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident.

Police begin probe into accident

The mishap created panic in the area as a large number of locals gathered near the accident spot following the crash. Traffic movement in the area was also briefly affected during the rescue operation.

Police have started an investigation into the incident and are trying to ascertain the exact reason behind the accident. Officials suspect that loss of balance or overspeeding may have led to the mishap, though the exact cause is yet to be confirmed.

The identity of the deceased driver had not been officially confirmed till the filing of this report.
