Odisha Vigilance apprehends Champua ACSO while taking Rs 15,000 bribe for paddy procurement

Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday apprehended the Assistant Civil Supplies Officer (ACSO) of Champua in Keonjhar district while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 in connection with paddy procurement activities during the ongoing Kharif Marketing Season (KMS).
The accused officer has been identified as Dhumaram Murmu. He was caught red-handed at his office in Champua while allegedly demanding and accepting the bribe from a local Large Area Multipurpose Cooperative Society (LAMPCS) in-charge.
According to Vigilance officials, the bribe was allegedly sought in relation to paddy procurement carried out recently under the current procurement season. Investigators further claimed that the ACSO had also been demanding money from other paddy procurement centres in the area.
Following the trap operation, Vigilance officials recovered and seized the entire bribe amount of Rs 15,000 from the possession of the accused.
After the arrest, simultaneous searches were launched at locations linked to Murmu to investigate possible disproportionate assets and other irregularities.

In connection with the incident, Balasore Vigilance Police Station Case No. 08/2026 has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Officials said further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
