OPTCL cancels all employee leaves amid surging electricity demand in Odisha

In response to the rising electricity demand across the state, the Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) on Saturday has taken unprecedented measures by cancelling all employee leaves with immediate effect. The circular directs that no employee may leave headquarters without prior approval until further notice, signalling a strict operational approach to ensure uninterrupted power supply.

Leave Cancellation and Headquarters Restrictions

The circular issued by the Chief General Manager (HRD) highlights that all types of sanctioned leave, apart from maternity leave and medical leave, are temporarily suspended. Employees who are on leave are advised to report back to duty immediately.

Additionally, scheduled meetings, conferences, seminars, training programmes, official tours, inspections, and other engagements requiring employees to leave headquarters have also been postponed or cancelled until further instructions.

The move underscores the urgency of manpower availability and the commitment of OPTCL to maintain seamless electricity transmission during critical periods.

Ensuring Uninterrupted Power Supply

Officials stated that the decision comes in view of an unforeseen surge in electricity demand, particularly during the ongoing heatwave and increased consumption across the state.

The OPTCL management emphasised that these measures are temporary but essential to coordinate manpower effectively and prevent any disruption in the power supply chain.

Authorities have instructed all functional directors and staff to strictly comply with the circular, reinforcing accountability and operational readiness.

Residents across Odisha are relying on OPTCL’s efforts to maintain steady electricity, and the move reflects the corporation’s proactive approach in dealing with high-demand periods. The suspension of leave and strict restrictions on leaving headquarters highlight the corporation’s determination to prioritise public service over routine employee schedules.
