After days of scorching heat and unbearable humidity, residents of Rourkela finally received much-needed relief as a powerful Kalbaisakhi storm swept across the city on Wednesday. The sudden change in weather brought heavy rainfall, hailstorm, and strong winds, significantly bringing down the temperature.

According to reports, winds gusting at nearly 80 kilometres per hour lashed several parts of the city, disrupting normal life for some time. The impact of the storm was so intense that the temperature dropped by almost 10 degrees within just an hour, offering respite to people struggling with severe summer conditions.

Temperature Drops Sharply Amid Strong Winds

Officials said that despite the storm activity, the temperature in Rourkela was recorded at around 37 degrees Celsius till 2:30 PM. However, the combination of rainfall and gusty winds helped reduce the oppressive heat and humidity that had gripped the city over the past few days.

Notably, this is the second major Kalbaisakhi spell to hit Rourkela within a span of just two days. Earlier, the storm had created havoc in several areas, causing damage due to heavy rain and powerful winds.

Residents, however, welcomed the sudden weather change as it brought temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave-like conditions in the region.
