The filmmaker recently shared that the character played by Ram Charan is inspired by a young man named Peddi Raju, a daily wage labourer from his village who worked at construction sites while possessing extraordinary sporting talent. By adapting elements of his life for the big screen, the director aims to bring an emotionally charged and inspiring journey to audiences across India.
The Extraordinary Life of Peddi Raju
Speaking to M9, Buchi Babu Sana revealed that Peddi Raju was known locally for his incredible abilities in sports like cricket and basketball. Despite working as a labourer, he regularly participated in games whenever he found time away from work.
According to the director, Peddi Raju had the rare ability to turn matches around almost single-handedly. His performances became so popular in the village that locals often stopped him from heading to work because they wanted him to play for their teams instead.
His sporting brilliance reportedly earned him generous payments whenever he stepped onto the field. Buchi Babu Sana further explained that every time he watched Peddi Raju, he saw the potential for a powerful cinematic journey. While the real-life figure excelled in cricket and basketball, the film transforms the protagonist into a wrestler.
The movie also adds a romantic layer through his relationship with Janhvi Kapoor’s character, Achiyamma.
A Rural Sports Drama Packed With Emotion
The trailer of Peddi paints a vivid picture of India’s heartland, where sports are deeply connected to everyday life and community pride. The film promises a blend of emotion, action, romance and rustic drama set against a culturally rich backdrop.
Apart from Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, the film features Jagapathi Babu and Divyenndu in pivotal roles alongside a strong supporting ensemble.
The movie was launched in Mumbai on May 18, while its grand audio launch is set to take place in Bhopal.
Strong Team Behind Peddi
Written and directed by Buchi Babu Sana, Peddi is backed by producer Venkata Satish Kilaru under the banner of Vriddhi Cinemas, in association with Mythri Movie Makers, Sukumar Writings and IVY Entertainment. Ishan Saksena serves as the co-producer.
The film also brings together a celebrated technical crew featuring music composed by AR Rahman, cinematography by R. Rathnavelu, production design by Avinash Kolla, editing by Navin Nooli, and executive production by V. Y. Praveen Kumar.
Peddi is scheduled to premiere globally on June 3, 2026, before arriving in theatres worldwide on June 4, 2026.
