Odisha Para athlete Payal Nag returned to her village on Thursday to a grand celebration after winning two gold medals at an international event. Villagers welcomed her with great enthusiasm, taking out a colourful procession with music and festivities.

Payal Nag brought glory to the country by clinching gold medals at the Hyundai World Archery Para Series-2026 held in Bangkok. Representing India, she delivered a remarkable performance and made the nation proud.

After nearly two months away, Payal returned to her native village, where residents accorded her a warm and emotional reception. Muribahal Tehsildar, BDO, and Kantabanji MLA Laxman Bag congratulated her on her achievement.

The talented para athlete from Muribahal block in Odisha’s Balangir district stunned everyone by defeating world number one archer Sheetal Devi to secure the gold medal in the mega event.

Her success has brought immense pride not only to Bolangir district but also to the state and the country.

Payal Nag said, “I returned to my village after winning two gold medals. I am very happy with the grand welcome by the villagers. My family members are very happy. People were earlier saying that their daughter couldn’t do anything. However, I have won two international gold medals today.”

Kantabanji MLA Laxman Bag said, “Para athlete Payal has made the country and state proud by winning two gold medals at the international level. We are all proud and happy for her.”
