Extreme heat to continue till May 26 in Odisha, repeated power cuts add to public distress

The heatwave and intense sultry weather conditions are set to continue across Odisha till May 26, bringing little relief to residents grappling with soaring temperatures and humidity. Along with the heatwave, people are also expected to experience unusually warm nights, adding to discomfort and making weather conditions more challenging.
In view of the prevailing weather situation, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Warning for Sambalpur, Bolangir, and Jharsuguda districts for Friday. The same three districts have also been placed under Orange Warning for Saturday, indicating the likelihood of severe heatwave conditions and urging people to take precautionary measures.
Apart from these districts, the IMD has issued Yellow Warnings for 23 other districts, cautioning residents about hot and humid weather conditions that may affect daily life.
Amid the unbearable heat and humidity, another issue has compounded the difficulties of residents- power fluctuations. The persistent voltage surge problem has reportedly damaged electrical appliances in several households. While some residents have claimed that their air conditioners have stopped functioning, others reported damage to fans and other electrical equipment.

Residents of the state capital have allegedly been suffering for the past three days due to the issue. People residing in Sundarpada, Botanda, and Mahabir Nagar areas under the Dhauli section have expressed frustration over recurring power fluctuation problems.
Locals alleged that despite repeatedly approaching the Dhauli Section office seeking a resolution, the problem remains unresolved. However, no official response from the Dhauli Section of TPCODL had been received regarding the matter at the time of reporting.
