Electricity outage at nursing home in Dhenkanal raises concerns over patient care

Serious allegations of mismanagement have emerged at a private nursing home in Dhenkanal town, Odisha, after patients reportedly faced discomfort due to prolonged power outages on Sunday.

The facility primarily caters to pregnant women receiving childbirth-related treatment, but patients were allegedly left struggling amid high temperatures due to the absence of electricity for several hours. Relatives have also raised concerns over the lack of basic facilities and services during the outage.

Family members claimed that the prolonged power disruption worsened the situation, as the nursing home lacked immediate arrangements to ensure patient comfort. One relative stated, “We have been here for the last four to five days, and there have been frequent electricity problems at the nursing home. This created serious inconvenience and risk for all the patients. We repeatedly urged the authorities to arrange for electricians promptly, but our requests were ignored. We even asked for the owner’s contact number, but it was refused. The issue has now been resolved.”

Following the complaints, the nursing home authorities reportedly called an electrician, and repair work was initiated at the facility.

No official statement has yet been received from the management of the private nursing home regarding the allegations and inconvenience faced by patients. The incident has raised questions about the preparedness and management standards of private healthcare facilities in handling emergencies.
