Farmer’s son Bubun Sahu tops OPSC OCS 2024 exam with Rank 1, credits self-study and determination

From a modest background to securing the top rank in one of Odisha’s most competitive examinations, Bubun Sahu’s journey to Rank 1 in the OPSC OCS 2024 exam is a story of perseverance, self-belief, and disciplined preparation. A farmer’s son and currently serving in the police department, Bubun has emerged as an inspiring example for aspirants across the state.

Journey From Job To Civil Services Dream

Bubun Sahu said his vision for the Odisha Civil Service took shape during his time at Ravenshaw University, though he began serious preparation after the COVID-19 period.

He revealed that he secured Rank 40 last year, but this year he achieved Rank 1, describing the moment as deeply satisfying. Bubun credited consistent self-study as the key to his success, as he did not attend any coaching centre and prepared entirely on his own while managing his job responsibilities.

He said completing the vast syllabus required nearly 1.5 years of disciplined effort. According to him, studying consistently for 4–5 hours daily was sufficient to cover the syllabus effectively. He also added that marks bring only temporary happiness, but true growth comes from continuous learning and exam preparation.

Views On Civil Services, Police Work And Exam Experience

Bubun Sahu also spoke about the difference between police service and civil services. He said both are equally respectable, but civil services offer wider administrative exposure across sectors like health and governance. At the same time, he acknowledged the dignity of police service, especially the responsibility of maintaining law and order and removing crime from society.

He added that he would continue training and seek guidance from seniors to decide his future path. Coming from a farmer’s family, Babun said his success has made his family proud, including his wife, and strengthened his resolve to serve society in whichever role he is assigned.

He also recalled that during the examination process, he was asked questions related to public trust in policing, current issues, and administrative awareness.

Bubun Sahu’s remarkable rise from a self-studying aspirant to OPSC Rank 1 highlights the power of determination, discipline, and clarity of purpose, making him a true inspiration for future civil service candidates.
