Tumbbad 2: Sohum Shah’s horror epic turns mega-sized, 1,600-person crew and massive cooling setup power Mumbai shoot

The makers of Tumbbad 2: Pralaya Ayega are reportedly leaving no stone unturned to elevate the scale of the much-awaited sequel to the cult folk-horror phenomenon Tumbbad. Led by actor-producer Sohum Shah, the film is shaping up to be an ambitious cinematic spectacle packed with sprawling crowd sequences, intricate set work and large-scale production planning.

Directed by Adesh Prasad, the sequel also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a pivotal role. With expectations already sky-high after the original film’s cult success, the makers are reportedly aiming for a far more immersive and visually grand experience this time around.
Giant Marketplace Set Constructed in Mumbai
As per reports by The Hollywood Reporter India, the film is currently being shot on an enormous specially designed set in Mumbai. Instead of relying on a conventional studio atmosphere, the creators are said to be building an environment that feels organic, crowded and lived-in.
The massive setup reportedly recreates a bustling marketplace filled with movement, texture and realism, helping the fictional universe feel authentic rather than staged. The goal appears to be crafting a cinematic world that audiences can fully sink into.
1,600 Crew Members Involved in Mammoth Shoot
One of the film’s biggest highlights is reportedly the sheer scale of manpower involved. Around 1,600 people, including technicians, crew members and junior artists, are said to be working on a gigantic sequence currently being filmed.
The production is reportedly focusing heavily on crowd-driven storytelling, with the makers designing scenes that feel chaotic, vibrant and natural instead of tightly controlled studio shots. Such a large operation has also demanded extensive logistical planning behind the scenes.
1,000 Tons of AC Installed Amid Heatwave Conditions
To handle the enormous crowd and packed shooting environment, the production team has reportedly installed nearly 1,000 tons of air conditioning along with industrial exhaust and ventilation systems across the set.
With soaring temperatures and heatwave conditions affecting several parts of the country, these arrangements are believed to have been crucial for maintaining workable shooting conditions and ensuring comfort for the huge crew involved in the schedule.
Reports further suggest that equipment, materials and operational resources were sourced from multiple vendors and cities to support the demanding scale of the production.
Makers Focus on Atmosphere and Visual Detail
The sequel’s ambitious visual design has reportedly brought together specialised lighting, rigging and technical teams from different regions of the country. The makers are said to be paying special attention to mood, texture and atmospheric detailing — elements that played a major role in making the original Tumbbad a standout horror experience.
