Kalahandi police bust inter-district bike theft gang, 44 stolen motorcycles recovered

A major breakthrough was achieved by police in Odisha’s Kalahandi district with the arrest of an inter-district bike theft gang on Wednesday involved in multiple cases of vehicle theft across the region.

The operation has led to the recovery of 44 stolen motorcycles.

The arrests come after a series of complaints were lodged at Junagarh police station regarding frequent bike thefts in Dharmagarh subdivision town and other parts of the district. Acting on the complaints, police constituted a special team to investigate the matter and track down the culprits.

Special Police Operation Leads to Arrests

During coordinated raids conducted at various locations across Kalahandi district, police arrested six members of the inter-district bike theft gang. The accused are believed to have been involved in stealing motorcycles over the past several days, triggering panic among vehicle owners in the area.

Nagaraj Devarakonda, Superintendent of Police, Kalahandi said, “Complaints were received from various areas regarding the bike theft incidents. Based on the investigation, it was found that a total of 44 bikes were stolen. Police further stated that three persons were involved in the theft, while another three had purchased the stolen vehicles.”

Theft Network Spanning Multiple Districts

Preliminary investigation revealed that the gang was not limited to Kalahandi alone but was also active in nearby districts. The accused reportedly stole motorcycles and sold them in rural areas using forged documents or at significantly lower prices.

Police have stated that the arrested individuals have been forwarded to court, while further investigation is underway to identify other members connected to the racket and uncover the full extent of the network.
