A woman’s body was found partially buried on the Kathajodi riverbed in Cuttack on Thursday. The discovery prompted a police investigation amid suspicions that she may have been murdered and her body was buried at the site.

The identity of the deceased had not been established at the time of reporting. Baranga police recovered the body and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Body Found In Remote Riverbed Area

According to preliminary information, the body was discovered in a difficult-to-access stretch of the Kathajodi riverbed. Sources indicated that the location cannot be reached by vehicle and is also challenging to access on foot.

Officials suspect that unidentified miscreants may have killed the woman and subsequently buried the body at the remote site in an attempt to conceal the crime.

Decomposition To Discovery

Police are also examining the possibility that the body came to light after it started to decompose.

According to reports, it is being suspected that stray dogs in the area may have dug up the partially buried body, leading to its discovery.

The body was found in a semi-buried condition, raising suspicions of an attempt to dispose of evidence after the alleged crime.

Police And Forensic Teams Begin Probe

Soon after receiving information about the body, Baranga police reached the spot and began an investigation.

At the time of reporting, a forensic team was on its way to the scene to assist in the examination of the site and collection of evidence.

Senior police officers, including the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) and the Superintendent of Police (SP), also visited the location as part of the ongoing probe.

Police sources said that efforts are underway to establish the identity of the woman and determine the exact circumstances leading to her death. The investigation is continuing.
