Odisha govt issues show-cause notice to 79 BEOs over delay in teacher transfer process

The Directorate of Elementary Education has issued show-cause notices to 79 Block Education Officers (BEOs) across Odisha for allegedly failing to process and forward online transfer applications of elementary teachers within the stipulated deadline.
The move marks a major administrative action by the State government over alleged irregularities and negligence in the ongoing primary teacher transfer process.
According to official sources, May 10, 2026, was the last date for forwarding online transfer applications of elementary teachers to the respective District Education Officers (DEOs). However, several BEOs reportedly failed to send the applications despite repeated instructions, leading to delays in the transfer process.
Taking serious note of the lapse, the Directorate termed the delay as “gross administrative indiscipline” and directed the concerned officers to submit written explanations within three days.
The notice warned that disciplinary action and other appropriate measures would be initiated against the officers if their replies were found unsatisfactory.
The BEOs who received notices belong to several districts, including Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balangir, Nayagarh, Khurda and Rayagada.

Sources said a large number of transfer applications are still pending in several blocks, particularly in Ganjam, Gajapati and Kendrapara districts.
The development has triggered concern among teachers awaiting transfers, as delays in processing applications may affect the implementation of the annual transfer exercise for the academic session.
