NEET UG 2026: NTA launches fee refund portal amid paper leak controversy

Following the cancellation of the initial NEET UG 2026 examination due to allegations of a paper leak and other irregularities, the National Testing Agency (NTA) officially commenced the fee refund process.

The online portal became operational on May 21, 2026, allowing candidates who sat for the original test on May 3 to claim their examination fees. Meanwhile, the agency is preparing to conduct a fresh pen-and-paper re-examination on June 21, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 5:15 pm, with more than 22 lakh candidates expected to participate.

Fee Refund

To facilitate a smooth reimbursement, the NTA activated a dedicated portal on its official website, neet.nta.nic.in. The purpose of this initiative is to return the collected fees directly to the affected students without penalising them financially for the rescheduled test.

Submission Details: Candidates must log in to the NTA website and input their valid bank account information alongside the corresponding IFSC code to secure their refund.

Operational Timeline: The window for submitting bank details to claim the examination fee will remain open until May 27.

Re-test Exemption: The testing agency has confirmed that candidates appearing for the upcoming re-examination will not be required to pay any additional fees for the fresh test.

Updates On Examination City Preferences

In tandem with the financial updates, the NTA allowed candidates to alter their present address and preferred examination city to accommodate those who have relocated or changed addresses.

This preference modification facility remained open on the official website until 11:50 pm on May 21, 2026. The agency clarified that the newly allocated examination centres for the June re-test may differ from the previous venues, depending heavily on the updated city choices and the availability of local centres.

Crucial Guidelines For Applicants

According to the official frequently asked questions (FAQs) released by the NTA, certain parameters from the original registration remain locked. Crucially, candidates will not be permitted to change the medium of examination that they selected during their initial application process.

Applicants are strictly advised to maintain a regular check on the official website, neet.nta.nic.in, to stay updated on the re-examination schedule, the issuance of admit cards, city preference updates, and the ongoing refund procedure.
