In a heartwarming cross-border love story, a young woman from Odisha’s Sambalpur married an American man after the two first connected during online guitar lessons.

Payal Haripal, granddaughter of renowned Sambalpuri singer Jitendra Haripal, tied the knot with Kyle John Figula from New Jersey, United States, in a traditional wedding ceremony held in Sambalpur.

The marriage brought together two families from India and the United States in a celebration marked by Odia traditions, Hindu rituals and cultural exchanges.

From Virtual Music Classes To Real-Life Romance

According to the couple, Payal and John first met while attending online guitar classes. What started as a friendship gradually developed into a relationship over time.

After receiving approval from both families, the couple decided to take their relationship forward and get married.

Before the traditional ceremony, the couple completed legal marriage formalities at the Sambalpur Family Court.

The wedding ceremony was held on Wednesday, the 13th of this month, in Sambalpur, following Vedic customs and Odia cultural traditions. Family members and relatives from both sides participated enthusiastically in the celebrations.

American Groom Embraces Sambalpuri Traditions

The newly married couple shared that their journey was initially challenging, but things eventually fell into place smoothly.

Payal said her husband and in-laws wholeheartedly participated in all the wedding rituals and traditions, making the occasion even more special for the family.

Adding a cultural touch to the celebrations, John has also started learning to speak a little Sambalpuri, which has brought excitement and joy among family members.
