In a heartbreaking incident, a young man allegedly died by suicide by consuming poison, reportedly due to emotional distress linked to a failed relationship in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. The tragic incident has sparked shock and discussion across the region, especially after a video recorded by the deceased while consuming poison began circulating widely on mobile phones and social media platforms.

The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Brahmananda Giri of Manida village under Rasgovindpur police limits in Mayurbhanj district. 

According to reports, Brahmananda was in a relationship with a young woman from a neighbouring village. As per statements made by him in the video, he claimed that the two had been in a romantic relationship for the last seven years and also shared a close personal bond.

Brahmananda allegedly stated in the video that problems began after the woman’s family came to know about their relationship while attempting to arrange her marriage elsewhere. He further claimed that her family members had been threatening him on multiple occasions. Expressing emotional distress and disappointment over the relationship, he reportedly said he was ending his life after failing to overcome the situation.

The video also reportedly showed Brahmananda holding the woman’s family responsible for his extreme step.

After family members came to know that Brahmananda had consumed poison, they immediately rushed him to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment. Despite efforts by doctors, he succumbed while undergoing treatment. Following post-mortem procedures, his body was handed over to the family.

Sources said Brahmananda belonged to a financially struggling family, with his parents working as farmers. He was employed at a company and had returned to his village a few days ago before the incident took place.

The incident has created a stir in the village, leaving residents shocked and saddened.
