Big relief for Odisha SI aspirants as OUSSSC to hold exams for 7,664 vacant police posts

Good news has arrived for thousands of police job aspirants in Odisha as the state government has officially initiated the recruitment process for 7,664 vacant posts in the police department, including 933 Sub-Inspector (SI) posts. The State Home Department has directed the newly formed Odisha Uniformed Services Staff Selection Commission (OUSSSC) to begin preparations for conducting the recruitment examinations.

According to official sources, the examination schedule and centres are expected to be announced soon. This time, unlike previous years, the recruitment process will not be handled by the Odisha Police Recruitment Board (OPRB). Instead, OUSSSC will conduct the examinations for various police posts.

Recruitment For Multiple Police Posts

As per the Home Department’s official order, recruitment will be conducted for four categories of posts, including 300 Constable (Communication) posts, 2,212 OISF Constable posts, 4,219 Civil Constable posts and 933 Police SI posts.

“It is good news for aspirants who had been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. Their hopes are finally set to be fulfilled. OUSSSC should conduct the recruitment process with complete transparency, which is extremely important in the current situation in Odisha. If these vacant positions are not filled on time, development and policing work may suffer,” said Sarat Sahoo, former police officer.

“The SI examination requires preparation for both the written test and physical test. Along with studies, we are also continuing our physical practice regularly. It would be very helpful for aspirants if the authorities announce a tentative examination timeline soon,” said an aspirant.

The government has also directed OPRB to transfer all previous applications and records related to SI recruitment to OUSSSC. Candidates who had already applied earlier for the SI examination are likely to get an opportunity to participate in the new process. However, clarity regarding fresh applications is expected in the upcoming guidelines.

Focus On Transparency After SI Recruitment Scam

The move comes after the previous Police SI recruitment examination was hit by a major scam involving allegations that SI posts were sold for nearly Rs 25 lakh. The case led to the arrest of 117 persons, including 114 candidates, and is currently under investigation by the CBI.

With OUSSSC now taking charge of the recruitment process, aspirants are hopeful of a fair and transparent examination system.

However, many are closely watching whether the exams will be conducted directly by OUSSSC or through a third-party agency, as transparency remains a key concern after the previous controversy.
