IPL betting crackdown in Odisha: 18 arrested; over Rs 36 lakh seized, Rs 40 lakh frozen

In a major crackdown on illegal IPL betting activities, Odisha Police on Tuesday arrested 18 individuals as part of its ongoing anti-betting campaign during the IPL-2026 season. The operation was conducted across multiple locations based on intelligence inputs, leading to the exposure of betting networks operating in the state.

Authorities said that the crackdown is part of a wider effort to curb illegal gambling activities linked to the ongoing cricket tournament. The arrested individuals are currently under investigation as police continue to trace the larger network involved in the racket.

Cash Seized, Accounts Frozen And Assets Recovered

During the operation, police seized more than Rs 36 lakh in cash from different locations linked to the accused. In addition, nearly Rs 40 lakh parked in multiple bank accounts has been frozen as part of financial action against the betting syndicate.

Officials also recovered several assets used in the illegal operations, including two cars and 13 mobile phones. These devices are expected to provide crucial evidence in identifying further links within the betting network.

Police have indicated that further investigations are underway and more arrests cannot be ruled out as the probe expands into deeper layers of the racket. Authorities reiterated their commitment to take strict action against illegal betting operations across the state.
