Ramayana may arrive earlier than expected! Ranbir Kapoor-Yash magnum opus likely to get a massive pre-Diwali release

Ever since the first glimpse of the ambitious mythological saga Ramayana began making waves, anticipation around the film has only grown louder. With Ranbir Kapoor stepping into the role of Lord Rama, Yash playing Ravana, and powerhouse performers like Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman and Sai Pallavi as Devi Sita, the Namit Malhotra-backed spectacle is already being touted as one of Indian cinema’s most ambitious projects ever mounted.

Now, fresh reports suggest that fans may not have to wait as long as initially expected to witness the epic unfold on the big screen.

Makers Reportedly Planning an Earlier Release!

While Ramayana: Part I was originally announced for a Diwali 2026 release, new industry chatter indicates that the makers are considering advancing the theatrical debut by nearly a week.

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the film is now eyeing an October 30, 2026 release instead of arriving closer to the Diwali festivities. The reported move is said to be part of a larger box-office strategy.

Producer Namit Malhotra is reportedly exploring a release window before the festive rush “so that the business peaks in the second week. He is here to redefine business by not just bringing a pre-Diwali release, but also a film that scores a bigger second week than the first due to the festive period.”

Industry insiders claim discussions are actively underway, and “a final decision will be taken soon.”

Yash’s Statement Sparked Speculation

The rumours surrounding the revised release timeline intensified after Yash hinted at the release period during an interaction with a Hollywood news portal.

Speaking about the film’s schedule, the actor said, “‘Ramayana’ we are planning this year, (on) Diwali, which is October last week.”

That statement quickly fuelled speculation that the makers could indeed be preparing for an earlier launch than previously anticipated.

A Strategic Box Office Move?

If the film ultimately lands on October 30, it could gain a strong advantage at the global box office before the crowded November slate begins. The timing may also help the film avoid direct competition internationally from titles like Godzilla Minus Zero and The Cat in the Hat, both reportedly slated for November 6 releases.

The release adjustment could prove particularly beneficial for IMAX and premium large-format screenings, especially since Ramayana is also expected to heavily target those high-value screens worldwide.

Massive Distribution Deal in Discussion

Reports further suggest that the official confirmation of the release date may depend on the finalisation of the film’s distribution arrangements. The makers are reportedly negotiating a staggering Rs 450 crore distribution deal, with talks still ongoing.
