From live GPS tracking to instant evidence sharing: How Bhubaneswar’s ‘We Care Saathi’ app works

The BhubaneswarCuttack Commissionerate Police on Wednesday relaunched its citizen safety application, ‘We Care Saathi’, with upgraded features aimed at providing faster emergency assistance and real-time communication with police authorities.

Integrated with the emergency response support system and the dial-112 helpline, the app allows users in distress to alert police instantly using a single tap, according to a report by Times of India.

Commissioner of Police S Dev Datta Singh said the application is an upgraded version of the earlier ‘Mo Saathi’ app launched in May 2015, which had become technologically outdated.

According to police officials, the app has been redesigned with modern tools to improve emergency response and strengthen the city’s safety infrastructure, particularly for women, though it is intended for use by all citizens.

How ‘We Care Saathi’ Works

The application enables users to share their real-time GPS location directly with the police control room and with pre-selected emergency contacts during emergencies.

It also allows citizens to instantly upload photographs of suspects, vehicles or suspicious locations to the police server. In addition, users can record and share short video clips, giving law enforcement officials immediate visual evidence and situational context during emergencies.

Police officials said these features are intended to ensure quicker response times and improve on-ground coordination during distress situations.

Sarai 2.0 Introduced for Hotels and Lodges

Alongside the SOS app, the commissionerate police also launched ‘Sarai 2.0’, replacing the earlier Sarai application used by hotels and accommodation providers.

The updated platform allows hotels, lodges, guest houses and homestays to digitally submit guest check-in details directly to the police in real time, removing manual paperwork and improving compliance with Sarai Act regulations.
