Kalbaisakhi Fury hits Rourkela, city plunges into darkness after widespread damage

A brief but intense half-hour Kalbaisakhi storm has thrown Rourkela city into complete chaos, leaving behind a trail of destruction and disruption. The sudden storm uprooted trees across several areas, with large trees falling onto houses and blocking roads, severely affecting normal life in the city.
City Shaken By Sudden Storm And Power Outage
According to reports, the storm lashed the city for nearly 30 minutes, but its impact has been severe. Residents woke up to scenes of destruction with trees scattered everywhere. Many houses have been damaged after being hit by fallen trees.
The situation worsened as the city remained without electricity throughout the night. While power supply has been partially restored in some areas in the morning, several localities are still in darkness. Continuous heat and humidity have further added to the discomfort of residents.
People are now struggling to manage daily life, as they are unable to stay inside their homes due to the heat and lack of electricity. Many families, including children, were seen taking shelter outside their houses through the night.
Severe Damage In Multiple Localities, Administration On Ground
Severe damage has been reported from areas including Kharia Bahal slum, NJU slum, Shakti Nagar, NIT area, and Jagda locality. Trees have fallen in several places, damaging houses and disrupting movement.
The Sundargarh district administration has begun assessing the extent of the damage. Officials have been visiting affected areas to take stock of the situation and evaluate the losses caused by the storm.
